Panel: From the Bench to the Bedside: Research as the Basis for Current Practice and the Foundation for our Future | |||
To consider the importance of maintaining a commitment to both clinical and basic research in plastic surgery in order to ensure the future of the specialty. Discussion will include material on significant productive research of the past and what aspects of current procedures are founded upon it (highlighted by a video clip and excerpt from Nobel Prize winner Joseph E. Murray, MD), contemporary research opportunities and how they may shape the future of clinical practice, and how to disseminate this information to the vast majority of clinical plastic surgeons to promote understanding of the importance of research efforts of and to our specialty.
